Gather the crew, grab your blankets and chairs and head out to beautiful Maggie Valley for the Great Smoky Mountain Trout Festival!  This unique, family-oriented event is immersed in the rich heritage of Maggie Valley and Western North Carolina, and highlights the importance of Mountain Trout as a valuable resource to the community.

For 20 years event attendees have been celebrating this Smoky Mountain tradition, and this years festival promises to be bigger and better than ever! Come on out and indulge yourself in the sights and sounds of Maggie Valley and the Great Smoky Mountains. There will be an educational/environmental tent which in the past has included groups such as the Great Smoky Mountain National Park, Haywood EMC, Haywood Waterways, Division of Inland Fisheries and many more. In addition to our environmental expo tent, the festival will include a free kids fishing clinic put on by the Natural Resource Division of Haywood Community College, the N.C. Wildlife Resource Commission  and the Haywood Waterways Association.  The CATCH (Caring for Aquatics Through Conservation Habits) program is designed to teach young people, "how, when and where" to fish, as well as to introduce lessons in aquatic ecology, water safety, fishing ethics and respect for the outdoors. Activities will be based on the Kids in the Creek Program and will involve collecting and identifying aquatic bugs and testing water quality.  There will also be kids activities and games, arts and crafts, retail merchandise and the famous "trout race"! We will have two kids fishing clinics the first one will be from 9 am to 12 pm and you will need to pre-register for this clinic. To pre-register for the morning kids fishing clinic please contact Karen at 828-926-0866 ext. 117. The afternoon clinic will be from 1 pm to 4 pm and will be filled on a first come first serve basis the day of the festival. So what are you waiting for? Let's go fishing!

There will be music throughout the day by the Hominy Valley Boys and the Caribbean Cowboy Band that will keep your hips swinging and your toes tapping! Our stage will also feature wildlife demonstrations with the likes of Rob Gudger, wildlife biologist who will be delighting the audience with his Wolf Tales and much more.

Jim Casada, author of more than 3500 magazine, newspaper articles and columns on hunting, fishing, firearms, conservation and other outdoor related topics.  He is the author of a number of academic books and more than 100 articles in scholarly journals.

There will be casting demonstrations and fly tying demonstrations throughout the day. Be sure and sign up for our Casting Contest for ages 16 and up and also our "Maggie Baggie" Bean Bag toss tournament which will be open to all ages.  There will also be a kite flying area for adult and children alike and you will even be able to make and fly your own kite.

Don't forget to bring your appetite! Local folks will be cooking up a variety of mouth watering foods! Enjoy festival favorites like tangy barbeque, ice-cream, funnel cakes, and kettle corn! And of course people still come from near and far for those famous fried trout dinners prepared by Scout Troop 309!

So whether you come for the music, the food, or the arts and crafts, there's something fun for everyone at this years Trout Festival!
